విష్ణు భగవానుడు అయిదు విభిన్న పవిత్ర క్షేత్రములలో విశాల బద్రి (బదరీనాథ్), యోగధన్ బద్రి, భవిష్య బద్రి, వృద్ధ బద్రి మరియు ఆది బద్రి పేరులతో పంచబద్రి క్షేత్రములుగా భారతదేశము నలుమూలల నుండి యాత్రికులను ఆకర్షించుచూ హిమాలయములలో బదరీనాధ్ మరియు జోషీమఠ పరిసరప్రాంతములలో వెలుగొందుచున్నాడు. ఈఅయిదుక్షేత్రములు బదరీనాధ్ పుణ్య క్షేత్రముతో ప్రారంభమై బదరీనాధ్ నకు ఉత్తరముగా 24 కి.మీ. దూరములో కల సతోపంత్హి మానీనదము దక్షణమునందు కల నందప్రయాగ వరకు విస్తరించినవి. సతోపంత్ అను పదము సత్ అనగా సత్యము పాత్ అనగా త్రోవ అను రెండు పదముల నుండి ఉద్భవించినది. మంచుతో కప్పబడిన పర్వత శిఖరముల మధ్య ఈ సతోపంత్ హిమనీనదము ఉన్నది. ఇది సముద్ర మట్టమునకు 12000 అడుగుల ఎత్తున ఉన్నది. ఈ హిమనీనదము ప్రాంతీయముగా మతపరమైన ప్రాముఖ్యత కలిగి ఇచ్చటి నివాసులు మరణించిన వారి ఆస్తికలు ఈ హిమానీనదములో విసిరివేయుదురు. బదరీ నారాయణుడు ఈ అయిదు పుణ్య క్షేత్రములలో అయిదు విభిన్న రూపములతో కొలువబడుచున్నాడు. వేసవి వర్షాకాలములు అనగా జూన్ నెల నుండి అక్టోబరు నెల మాసములు ఈ ఆలయములు సందర్శించు టకు వీలుగా ఉండును.
Badrinath is one of the four Shrines of popular Char Dham along with Kedarnath, Gangotri and Yamunotri. Badrinath is a nagar panchayat in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand State in Himalayan Range. Badrinath is the gateway to several mountain expeditions like Nilkantha. Badri refers to a berry a small, pulpy and edible fruit grow in large quantity in the area and nath means “Lord”. The deity named Badrinarayan since Narayan is the husband of Lakshmi (Badri incarnation of Lakshmi) and the Shrine named after Badrinath. In olden days Pilgrims used to walk to reach Badri. Sankaracharya re-built Badrinath temple in 7th century and refurbished numerous times after ts construction. The temple was destroyed severally in repeated earthquakes. Badrinath is at a height of 12000 feet above sea level and the famous for two hot springs Tapti Kund and Surya Kund maintain the temperature in Badrinath round the year. The legend is that Lord Vishnu in his incarnation as Nar and Narayan, undertook penance in an open area at Badrinath for the welfare of all living beings, that Lakshmi herself given shelter to him in the form of Badri (Regu or Indian Jujibi tree) Tree to protect from adverse weather conditions. Sage Narada also took up an act of penance here and recited the divine chants called Ashta Akshara Mantra otherwise known as Om Namo Narayanaya. Badri is located 22 km from Karna Prayag and is situated in the Pandukeswar Village, which is at a short distance away from Hanuman Chatti and Govind Ghat. Lord Vishnu presides in a meditation pose, and named as Yogdhyan. Pandukeshwar. The temple belongs to Gupta period and is at the height of 6000 ft above sea level. As per legend the Sage Ved Vyas had written Shri Mad Bhagwat here. The great philosopher Jagadguru Adi Sankaracharya endorsed these temples for encouraging Hindu religion all around the world. It is the winter residence or abode to the (Utsava Murti) Festival Idol of Badrinath in the absence of closure of Badrinath Temple. It is believed that the Yatra will be incomplete without offering prayer at this place. The legend says that King Pandu took penance and prayed Lord Vishnu to free him from the sin of killing the two mating deer. He has established a bronze statue of Lord Vishnu.
Bhavishya Badri located in the dense forest 17 km away from Joshimath in a village Subhain which is near Tapovan. This is future Badrinath when the Nara and Narayna mountains blocked and Badrinath Dham would become inaccessible at the time of the evil will cast. Bhavishya Badri is the one of the most prominent tourist spots where the pilgrims can visit charming views of the valley and forest. Pilgrims may travel by road up to Saldahar and take trek of 6 km to reach the temple where Lord Badrinarayan protects in the form of Narsingh in Joshimarh.
Vridh Badri or Bridha Badri is an old temple located in Animath situated at a distance of 7 km from Joshimath. Legend is that Lord Vishnu materialised here as an old man and as a result, the idol which is worshipped by the devotees round the year. The idol created by Viswakarma was worshipped in Vridha Badri Temple up to access to Badrinath was treated as one of the Char Dhams. Vridha Badri is also the only temple among Panch Badri that remains open throughout the year to perform pilgrimage.
Adi Badri is the first temple among the Panch Badri and situated 17 km away from Karna Prayag. Lord Vishnu devotees offered prayers in the absence of Badrinath closed in winter season. It is believed that Adiguru Shankaracharya had established Seven temples in this complex and built by the Gupta Rulers. The main temple in the complex dedicated to Lord Vishnu built on a raised pyramidal shape platform. The black stone image of Lord Vishnu wears a Mace, Lotus and Chakra in his hands. The temple also called as Yogi Badri when the Bhavishya Badri will have the same status as that of Badrinath Dham in future.
