Srirangam is the holy Vashinava Shrine with Ranganayaki and Ranganatha deities in Tamilnadu State. It is one of the 108 heaven shrines chanted by Alwars and one of the biggest temple complexes in India. The temple is near to Tiruchurapalli and is in the island between Kaveri and Kollidam rivers. The Hindu temple is famous as Heaven. The temple was built by the 44th Jiyar Swamy of Ahobil Matt. The deity will be praised chanting “Sriman Sriranga Sriyamanupadravan Andanam Savardhana”. The deity appears in relaxing pose on Adi Sesha. 

The legend is that Ikshwaka, son of Manu performed penance about Brahma. Brahma satisfied to his penance and gifted Sri Ranganatha worshipped by him. The worship continued up to the reign of Sri Rama. Sri Rama made friendship in his wilderness with Vibhishana, brother of Ravana since he was excluded from Lanka for his words to make friendship with Rama.

Srirangam Temple

Sri Rama killed Ravana with the assistance of Vibhishana and coroneted Vibhishana as the king of Lanka. Sri Rama reached Ayodya with Sita and coroneted as the king of Ayodya. Vibhishana also attended to the function along with all the Gods and kings. After the coronation of  Sri Rama, Vibhishana suffered with dissociation of Sri Rama could not be return back to Lanka. Sri Rama presented Sri Ranganatha to Vibhishana on behalf of himself and Vibhishana retuned back to Lanka with satisfaction. Vibhishana travelled to Lanka along with Sri Ranganatha and reached the island between Kaveri and Kollidam rivers at the evening. He has kept the idol on the shore and performed the evening prayer. He saw that the idol of Sriranganatha established in Pranavakara plane and felt sorry. The deity promised to receive the worship of Vibhishana during nights. Pilgrims may go to Kaveri river through the Raja Gopura on the southern side of the temple.

Sri Ranganatha appear in relaxing pose on Adisesha wrapped like a soft couch spreading his five heads as umbrella. The idol shaped in single rock. The cream prepared with sandal wood, camphor, musk, rosin and other special spices will be coated to the idol. Civet oil will be used in every Friday. Ranganadha worship is memorable. The experience keeps in ecstasy if experience itself. King Raja Raja arranged Ardha Mandapa and Ranga Vimanam in the first bailey named Raja Mahendra Tiruchtru.

Sri Ranganadha temple complex spread in an extent of 156 acres and 4km biggest bailey. The Temple Complex thrived with 54 minor temples, seven baileys and 21 towers. The Raja Gopuram (main tower) having 236  feet height and is the biggest temple tower in entire Asia. Three Ranganadha Swamy Temples Adi Ganga in Sri Ranga Pattana near Mysore in Karnataka, Madhya Ganga in Sivasumadra of Tamil Nadu and the present Sri Ranga Temple in Tamil Nadu. Three baileys occupied with resident houses, different Vaishnava Matts, Hotels and Shops. The remaining four baileys are in the temple complex. The beauty of the four highest Raja Gopurams and the 21 towers between the Main Tower on the south and the centum will give utmost pleasure to Pilgrims.

Jestaabhishekam in the month of Aani in Tamil (June-July), Brahmotsav in Pangu (March-April), Chariot Utshav in Thay (January-February), Vasanta Utshav in Vaisakhi  (May-June) and Vaikunta Ekadasi festivals to Sri Ranganadha will be performed in the temple. Archana performed in all days irrespective of timings. Abhiseks will be performed to Sri Krishna, Si Rama, Venkateswara and Bagavad Ramanujacharya. Srinivasa Kalyaa Utshav will be performed in all Saturday and Sundays at 11-00AM. Sri Satyanarayana seva performed at 6-00PM on all full moon days. Chakrapongali and Yellow Rice distributed as Prasad in the meals timings at afternoon and evening.  Free vision timing is 9-00AM to 12-00Noon,1-15PM to 6-00PM and again from 6-45PM to 9-00PM. There are medium and star hotels for accommodation in Tiruchurapalli near to Srirangam. 

Real vision  of Ramanujacharya  

There is the idol of Sri Ramanujacharya in Srirangam Temple. There is the real body of Ramanujacharya behind the idol. The body preserved from 1137 onwards. The body preserved with coating of Sandal wood and Saffron without using any chemicals. All Pilgirms are permitted to see the body of Ramanujacharya.
