The distance from Rishikesh to Deva Prayaga is 68 Km. Devprayag is a small town in Tehri Garhwal district in the state of Uttarakhand Dev Prayag is the Confluence of Alakananda and Bhagirathi Rivers. Devprayag named in name of Sage Dev Sharma led his ascetic life inthe place. It is one of the five sacred confluences in the hills and Devprayag is the place where river Alaknanda & Bhagirathi confluence. There is another river that belongs to this confluence named Saraswati which originates from Mana Village in Badrinath. The river comes from the feet of Lord Raghunath. Devprayag is the home of priests of Badrinath called as “Pandas”. The Adi guru Sankaracharya came to Badarinath in the 8th century and so many south Indian Brahmins followed Sankaracharya. Since then the South Indian Brahmins came to the Dham and other holy places are called as Pandas. The Maharaja of Garhwal assigned them to worship Lord Ram in Raghunath Temple in Devprayag.
Raghunathji Temple in Devprayag is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It is on the Rishikesh Badrinath highway. Constructed in the Deula style, the temple is glorified in the Divya Prabandha, and is one of the 108 Divyadesam dedicated to Vishnu, who is worshipped as Raghunathji and his consort Lakshmi as Sita. The temple was established by Adi Shankara during the 8th century. The temple is located uphill on the confluence of Alaknanda – Bhagirathi rivers, and the confluenceriver subsequently. Raghunathji is believed to performed penance at this place to relieve himself off the curse committed by killing Ravana. The temple is maintained and administered by the Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board of the Government of Uttarakhand.
The temple of Chandrabadani is dedicated to the Goddess of power and Sati, wife of Shiva, accidently dropped her torso here. Her weapons got scattered in the locality and the iron trishuls (tridents) are in the shape of old statues and lots at outside the temple. Sirkanda, Kedarnath and Badrinath peaks can be viewed from here for pilgrims enjoyment.
It is the place where Dashrath, father of lord Rama, performed self punishment. There is a small water stream Shanta named after the daughter of Dasharatha.
There are other temples Baital Kund, Brahm Kund, Surya Kund, Vashisth Kund, the Indradyumna Tirth, Pushyamal Tirth, Varah Tirth, Pushpavatika, Baitalshila, and Varahishila. It is said that by touching the Baital rock cures leprosy.
