The temple opens on Akshaya Tritiya and closes on the second day after Diwali. The actual source of river Yamuna is nearer and at the height of 4421 meters above sea level. There are two hot springs at Yamunotri offering relief to tired hikers. Surya Kund, has boiling hot water, while Gauri Kund, had lukewarm water suitable for bathing. The spring water hot to cook rice. There is few accommodation facilities available at the temple in a few small ashrams and guest-houses. The Priests (Pujaris) in this temple perform Pujas and distribution of Prasad. There is ritual practice at the site include hot springs where raw rice is cooked and made into Prasad.
After completion of Dharsan Pilgrims reach Uttarakhasi and may return to Rishikesh/Haridwar on the next day.
