Joshimath is at distance of 12 km from Vishnu Prayaga. Jyotimath is a Municipal city in Chamoli District located at a height of 6150 feet. It is the gateway to several Himalayan mountain climbing expeditions, trekking trails and pilgrim centres like Badrinath. Joshimath otherwise known as Jyothirmath is one of four maths established by Jagathguru Adi Sankaracharya in the 8 th century AD. There is one Kalpavruksha aged about 1200 years in the math along with other shrines in Joshimath. Among the shrines the temple of Narasimha another form of Lord Vishnu, Hanumah, Gowrishankar, Ganesha, Naudevi and Surya. Joshimath introduced as travel destination of chardham yatra. During winter Badrinath temple will be closed and the Lord Badrinath idol will be brought down to Joshimath and kept in Vasudeva Temple. Narasingh Temple is the prominent temple in Joshimath and one of the Saptha Badri also called as Narasingh Badri and the deity is the fourth incarnation of Lord Vishnu (fourth Avthar), the form of half lion and half man. Badrinath idol will be taken down by the temple priests of Badrinath to this temple.
Bhavisya Kedar is a small temple in Rishikesh dedicated to Lord Shiva and Parathi is believed to be home of Kedarnath in future. Temple has a small Shivalinga and image of Parvathi. Forecast is that in future landslide will occur at the end of Kaliyug and Badrinathji will shift to Bhavisya Badri and Kedarnathji to Bhavisya Kedar.
This is one of the four Maths (Monasteries) established by Jagathguru Adi Sankaracharya to teach the importance of monastic life as written in Vedas, Upanishads and Brahma Sutra. Badarinarayan and Rajareswari Devi idols were beautifully located in the Lakshmi Narayan temple situated inside the Sri Sankaracharya math.
Nanda Devi National Park is located around the peak of Nanda Devi mountain at a distance of 20 kms from Joshimath. The park has a shelter inside in the name of Nanda Devi Sanctuary, which is a cold basin enclosed by the ring of high mountain peaks.
The lake situated at a distance of 46 Km from Joshimath and is cursed for crows. It is believed that if crows fly over this lake they will die. We may found many crow feathers around the lake.
Valley of Flower National Park is situated towards the western Himalayas at a distance of 20 Km. This place is known for its widespread of alpine flower and variety of fauna. It is home to some rare species of animals like Asiatic black bear, snow leopard, musk deer etc,
