Hanuman Chatti is the famous temple of Lord Hanuman on the way to Badrinath from Joshimath. It is 34 km from Joshimath and 12 km from Badarinadh. Hanuma is the first and primary devotee of Lord Sri Rama. The devotees of Char Dham has to visit the temple before proceed to Badarinadh. The temple will be in Orange colour and seems as a small temple. It appears so beautiful to the devotees. There are no Restaurants and other shops at this holy place. The worship materials will be sold here in small shops.
There is an interesting history in Mahabharat on the holly place. Pandava lost their kingdom in dice game with Kaurava and left to perform wilderness. They wandered in the Himalayan Mountains. A lotus flower fallen in the hands of Draupadi, wife of Pandava on the way. Draupadi pleased with the beauty of the flower and asked Bhima to collect some more lotus flowers. Bhima wandered so many places to collect lotus flowers to satisfy Draupadi. He saw so many beautiful flowers except lotus. He has reached the holy place searching lotus flowers. Hanuma suppress the arrogance and haughtiness of Bhima feels as the most stronger and powerful in this place.
Bhima found a old monkey (Hanuma) across to his way. He found that the tale of the monkey spread over the way causing obstruction to his travel. Bhima requested Hanuma to remove his tale to continue his travel. Hanuma answered that he is old and non energetic. He has suggested removing his tale to the path making comfort to his travel. Bhima get angry and felt to remove the tale with his power and energy. Bhima tried several times to remove the tale but became in vain.
Bhima astonished and realized that the monkey has super power and might be a incarnation of a powerful god. He has prayed Hanuma to give darshan with actual form. Hanuma, the first and most important devotee of Sri Rama given darshan in his actual form. Hanuma informed that he is the son of Wind God and also brother to him. Hanuma blessed Bhima and informed that the lotus flowers he is now searching will be available in the garden of Kubera and shown the way to the garden.
Another legend is that Hanuma made penance of Badrinath and satisfied here. The temple will be closed along with Badarinath in the winter season. The entrance to the temple is free. It is comfortable to darshan from May to October.
